How to turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in Windows 10

Bluetooth will allow us to connect our devices wirelessly with each other, as well as send and receive files. Wi-Fi, for its part, is the most widely used Internet connection method, as it will allow us to establish a wireless connection without the need for cables.

How to disable Bluetooth

Keeping Bluetooth activated when we are not going to need it is an undesirable action. That is why we are going to see different ways we have to disable it on our Windows 10 computer.

From the Configuration section

To be able to deactivate Bluetooth from the «Settings» section, we must press the keyboard shortcut Windows + I to access it. Here we click on the “Devices” section and in the left column on «Bluetooth and other devices«. To disable, we just have to slide the Bluetooth control to the off position.

Another possibility from the Settings menu we can also turn it off is by clicking on the Network and Internet section. Here, in the left column, click on the Airplane mode section. On the right of the screen, in the Wireless Devices section, we can activate or deactivate Bluetooth.

Using the Action Center

Windows 10 also has an activity center located in the lower right part of the taskbar, where we can find application notifications and quick actions. Once we click on it, we find the Bluetooth icon activated in blue color. Just press on it to turn it off completely.

Using Device Manager

Another possibility to disable Bluetooth is to do it from the Windows “Device Manager”. To do this, we must press the keyboard shortcut Windows + X and select Device Manager from the list of options. Once inside, we access the “Bluetooth” section and display it.

Now we only have to right-click on our Bluetooth device, so that a context menu appears and click on “Disable Bluetooth”.

Use the Control Panel

We can also disable Bluetooth from the Windows 10 Control Panel. In order to do this we must write control panel in the search box of the Start menu. Next, click on “Networks and Internet” and “Center of networks and shared resources”. Finally, we select “Change adapter settings”. Here we click with the right mouse button on the Bluetooth section and the “Deactivate” option.

From Windows Services

If we do not plan to do Bluetooth for a long period of time, we can choose to disable it using the Services application. This method involves stopping the Bluetooth Support Service, which is in charge of discovering and associating the various devices. To do this we press the keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” and launch the command “Execute”. Here we will write services.msc and press Enter or the OK button.

Here we must look for the «Bluetooth user technical support service». We click on it with the right button and select Stop. Once this is done, we close the Services application and restart the PC.

Ways to disable Wi-Fi

If we are going to use our computer and we are not going to need an Internet connection or it is not available, it is a good idea to deactivate Wi-Fi to save energy. Next, we are going to see different ways to be able to turn it off in Windows 10.

From the task bar

The easiest way to disable Wi-Fi in Windows 10 is from the Windows 10 taskbar at the bottom right. It will only be necessary to click on the Wi-Fi symbol and you will see a number of options. We will have to click on the Wi-Fi box that appears in blue so that it remains blank and with this it will be deactivated.

We can also click on Airplane mode, but in this case we will turn off all wireless communications on our computer, including Wi-Fi.

Through the Settings menu

Another option we have to turn off Wi-Fi is through the Settings menu. To access it we must press the keyboard shortcut «Windows + I». From here, we will go to the “Network and Internet” section. Here we will find a single switch for turn Wi-Fi on or off, so we only have to click on it to disable it.

Using the Control Panel

We can also disable Wi-Fi from the Windows 10 Control Panel. To do this we must write control panel in the search box of the Start menu. Next, click on “Networks and Internet” and “Center of networks and shared resources”. Finally, we select “Change adapter settings”. Here we click with the right mouse button on the Wi-Fi section and choose the Deactivate option.

Use Device Manager

Windows Device Manager will also allow us to disable Wi-Fi on our computer. To do this, we press the keyboard shortcut “Windows + X” and select the Device Manager. Subsequently, we display the Network Adapters category and right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter. In the contextual menu that appears, click on “Disable device”.

Through Windows PowerShell

We can also use Windows PowerShell to be able to disable our Wi-Fi connection. To do this we must write powershell in the search box of the Start menu and run it as administrator rights. Then we write the following command to identify the name of the adapter that we want to disable and press Enter:

Get-NetAdapter | format-table

Later to disable our Wi-Fi connection we must write the following command and press Enter.

Disable-NetAdapter -Name Wi-Fi -Confirm:$false

Using the Command Prompt

If we wish, the command prompt will allow us to disable Wi-Fi through a specific command. To do this, we will type command prompt in the search box of the Start menu and run it as administrator. Later we write the following command to identify the adapter that we want to disable:

netsh interface show interface

Next, we write the following command to disable the Wi-Fi adapter:

netsh interface set interface Wi-Fi disable
