This is the new dark mode of Google Photos

Google Photos is one of the most used applications in Spain to store our photos. Despite the announcement of the end of the free unlimited storage in it, since there are many alternatives, it is the app that many will continue to use. The photos that we upload in the application do not only show us, but there are photos of friends, family, couples or even pets.

If we have photos of other people saved in Google Photos, it is likely that we are interested in the app grouping them. Thus, in a simple way we can see all those images in which a specific person appears. To ensure that this happens, we must have face recognition activated in the application.

Activate face recognition in Google Photos

Google Photos group faces

Face recognition and labeling It is a function that has been present for a long time in the application, which has also been improved thanks to various updates. For a better organization of the images in the app, having face recognition activated is a good option. This will allow you to see all the photos in which a certain person appears. If you want this to be so, the steps to follow to activate it are:

  1. Open Google Photos on your mobile.
  2. Tap on your profile picture (in the upper right corner).
  3. Enter the Settings of the app.
  4. Enter the Group similar faces section.
  5. Activate this option.

By having this function activated, Google Photos will handle grouping automatically the photos where the same person appears. When you enter the photos section, you will see that there is an album of people, where you can see all the faces that the application has recognized and whose images it has grouped.

Face recognition has improved over time, although you may find that the application does not always identify a person and tag as two different people, but you can always correct this manually, tagging the right person, so that the app will consider this for the next time. This is something that happens less and less, since such labeling is getting better and better.
