Despite your recent problems with your new terms of use, WhatsApp is still the messaging app most used in Spain. It is common for us to receive a large number of photos in the chats that we have in the app, some photos that later end up in the gallery of our Android mobile. Although this is something that not all users like.
There are users who would prefer hide WhatsApp photos from your smartphone gallery. The good news is that there is a simple way to hide those photos, whether they are all the photos they send us or those of a chat that we have in the specific messaging app.

Hide WhatsApp photos from gallery
All the photos that we receive in our chats in the application are saved in the phone gallery directly. If you want those photos to not be seen, to be hidden, in the app settings there is an option that makes it possible. It’s all about Media File Visibility, which will allow you to hide the photos from the gallery on Android directly, without being deleted from the mobile. The steps to do this are:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Click on the three vertical dots.
- Go into the settings.
- Go to Chats.
- Look for the Media file visibility option.
- Disable this option.
By disabling this option all the photos of the app in the gallery will be hidden. The normal thing is that you have a photo album dedicated to those photos that have been sent to you in the messaging application directly in your gallery, in that case, that album will be the one that is hidden now. The photos are hidden, but they are still on your smartphone, so they are not being deleted or freeing up space. If at a certain moment you want to see them again, you just have to activate the Visibility option again.
Hide photos from a specific chat
You may just want hide photos received in one or two specific chats by WhatsApp. The application also has the possibility to hide only the photos that belong to a specific chat, so that these photos will not be shown in the gallery of your phone. The steps in this case are different from those we have to follow in the previous section, but they do not present any complications either. This is what we have to do:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Search for the chat in question.
- Enter that chat.
- Click on the name of the contact or name of the chat (if it is a group chat).
- Go to the section Visibility of multimedia files.
- Click No in the window that appears.
With these steps, the photos of those specific chats will stop showing in the gallery of your phone. As in the previous case, the photos are hidden, but they are not deleted. The one that the photos are hidden does not save space on the device, since they are still stored in it, only they are not visible.
