How to connect Apple AirPods to an Android phone

Although there are several manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus or OPPO offer different models, there is no doubt that Apple AirPods are, today, one of the most popular True Wireless headphones From the market. But is it possible to use them with a device that does not have the Cupertino signature? The answer is yes.

Even with an Android phone or tablet? As well. Although the possibilities offered by Apple headphones are not the same as if we use them with an iPhone, we can connect them to a terminal with the Google operating system. The process is quite simple, we will explain it to you below.

AirPods on Android: how to connect them and what functions are available

Regardless of the AirPods model we are talking about (first generation, second generation or AirPods Pro), we can use them with a non-Apple device as if they were any Bluetooth headset. To pair them with an Android phone, which is what interests us, you just have to follow the following steps:

  • On your Android phone, check that Bluetooth is activated sliding the quick settings.
  • Open the lid of the charging case of the AirPods (with the headphones tucked into it). You will see the status light turn green.
  • Press and hold the settings button on the back of the case until the status light to blink white. That pinpoint of light can be on the front of the case or inside, depending on the AirPods model.
  • On your Android phone, go to Settings> Connected devices> Pair new device. When the AirPods appear on the list of available Bluetooth devices, select them, and voila: you already have the AirPods connected to your Android phone.

The screenshots that we show in this article correspond to a Xiaomi Mi A3 with Android 11 pure. In other layers and in other versions of Android, the route to reach available Bluetooth devices can vary a bit, but the process is practically the same.

Connecting the AirPods on a Xiaomi Mi A3 Android 11

Of course, as we said at the beginning, the functions of Apple headphones may be limited depending on the Bluetooth device to which they are connected. In the case of an Android phone, you will not be able to use Siri (obviously), but it is possible to use the AirPods to receive and transmit sound, listen to music and talk on the phone.

Double tap to skip song (or video, on YouTube) also works. And to check the battery level on your mobile remaining in the headphones and the case, you can use one of the many apps for this that exist on Google Play. AndroPods, AirDroid, MaterialPods or PodAir are some examples.
