As a result, any subscriber to Netflix’s movie and TV series streaming service has been able to download the videos from the catalog for some time to enjoy them offline. It is so much more practical, if not essential, on long trips, by car, plane, train, also in the subway, and in general in any place that does not offer Wi-Fi connection or sufficient 4G coverage.
Available on both the iOS and Android versions of the Netflix apps, this feature, however, long offered by most of the platform’s competitors, is thankfully easy to access. First of all, make sure you’ve updated your Netflix app – without it, the offline viewing feature is not sure to be available to you.
Once verified, open the Netflix mobile app and log in. Display the hidden menu in the left section of the screen. Logically, you should find a new section called “Downloadable Content”.
How do I download a series or a movie to Netflix?
Practical, this category will list, as its name suggests, all the movies, all the series and all the documentaries that you can temporarily store in the internal memory of your smartphone or your touch pad. The content that will be offered for download is very easy to identify: systematically, you will find an arrow icon right next to the movie or episode.
Tap this same icon to start the download. Please note: you will need a Wi-Fi connection to confirm a download. In its basic settings, Netflix prevents the download of your content when you are using your mobile data. Please note that you can initiate a download using your mobile data by authorizing the process in the Netflix app settings.
It is also possible to choose the quality when downloading. As usual, the higher the quality, the longer the download will take and the more space it will occupy on the device.
On Android, you can also force downloads to go to your memory card, as long as you have one, of course. To do this, you need to go to the Netflix application settings, under Downloads, then Download Location. All future downloads will land here.
Pay attention to the status of your internal memory
To find and manage your downloaded content, you will have to go to the “My Videos” section, accessible from the Netflix side menu, which will scroll by touching the upper left corner of your screen.
To start playing one of the videos you’ve downloaded, just tap on it. To delete your videos, press the “Edit” button, located in the upper right part of the screen, then on the cross that will appear in the video content (s) you want to delete. Please note that some devices support the so-called automatic deletion function. This will automatically delete the videos as soon as you watch them. You no longer have to worry about removing them manually. Convenient.
Be careful, Netflix videos tend to quickly take up space on your mobile device, especially if you download entire series seasons. So remember to keep an eye on the status of your mobile phone or tablet’s internal memory before embarking on an offline binge session.
