Home Assistant adapts to the new Android 11 menu: what is it and what is this application for

Today in Spain we have several options to control the home automation of our home. In addition to the multiple systems from each manufacturer, the most popular options for putting everything in one set are Alexa, Google Home, and to a lesser extent Homekit.

Beyond the options of these large companies, there are also some alternativesopen sourceto control the home less known, but still worth a review. Home Assistant is one of those that we cannot lose sight of, and it is that in its latest update it has caught up with the best.

One of the most interesting additions to Android 11 is the new menu for home automation. This menu appears when we press and hold the power button, and in addition to the shutdown menu and our Google Pay cards, it includes shortcuts to the devices linked to Google Home.

Far from being a Google exclusive, it seems that this menu is standard and any home automation manufacturer can add their home automation shortcuts to this new system. The first we met to do this was Xiaomi with Mi Home, and now it is the turn of the independent Home Assistant application, which has just been updated to version 3.0 and integrates the new home automation menu.

The Home Assistant application is nothing more than a shortcut and ultimately requires that you have the control system on a server, either on a computer or equipment such as the Raspberry Pi. The barrier to entry to this ecosystem is more complex than the usual systems, but if you have time, desire and a Raspberry Pi or want to buy one (Amazon sells the complete kit to start for 109 euros) you can always go to the official page to learn more about this system.
