Group calls and video calls come to Alexa

These Christmases promise to be different from what we are used to in Spain. Because many people cannot be with their families, video calls are especially relevant these dates. For this reason, many apps have been improving their possibilities, such as free 24-hour calls from Microsoft Teams or Amazon, which continues to provide Alexa with functions.

Amazon recently brought video calls to the Fire TV, a feature in full swing already. Now, the firm adds a new function to its assistant Alexa with which it will be possible to make group calls and video calls. A function that will also reach users in Spain.

Alexa will be able to make group video calls

Amazon already introduced group video calling in September, but now is when they roll out for its assistant Alexa. Through this function, users will be able to create groups in the Amazon assistant app. Once they have a group created, they can ask the assistant to call that group directly, using one of the brand’s speakers for this.

You can create all the groups you want in the application, so you can have groups with family, friends or colleagues, for example. To make these group video calls you will need a camera, so you will have to have one of the Amazon screen speakers for it. For now, they are not allowed on mobile, but you will need one of the Echo devices for them.

In the Alexa application it will be necessary to create a group, so that later you only have to ask the assistant to call that specific group. At any time you can add or remove members of a group that you have created in the app. The steps to create such a group are as follows:

1. Open the Alexa app.
2. Click on Communication at the bottom.
3. Click on the access icon to your profile.
4. Click on the icon with the three vertical dots.
5. Select the Add group option.
6. In the next window you have to activate group calls, by clicking on the Activate button.
7. Give that group a name.
8. Choose group members.
9. Click on Create a group.

Once you have said group, you can call them whenever you want. This new group video calling feature is now available in the United States, but also users in other countries will be able to use them shortly.
