Traditionally, Google’s office suite has been able to view Microsoft Office documents, but when they were edited they were converted to their own format. That changed recently in Google Docs on the web and now Office document editing is also available on Android.
This novelty assumes that you can edit Microsoft Office documents taking advantage of the collaborative editing capabilities of G Suite, and without any type of conversion involved. This edition is compatible with Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

Editing a .DOCX document in Google Docs No more converting between formats before you can edit Microsoft Office documents. From now on, Google’s office suite can natively open Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
The support now comes to Android, after the same was possible for a few months in the web version of Google Drive. This way, Google Docs can edit .doc, .docx and .dot files; Google Sheets can open .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xlt files, and Google Slides can edit .ppt, .pptx, .pps, and .pot files.
Support includes the ability to edit, comment and collaborate on Microsoft Office documents just like in any other document created from the Google suite and more easily, no need to convert between formats. When editing is finished, the result is saved back in the original format.
Google has announced that this novelty has begun to activate all personal and business G Suite users, although it may take more than 15 days to activate in the worst case.
