Google’s augmented reality reaches more devices: ARCore is now compatible with the Galaxy Note 20, the new Pixel and more

ARCore, as we know, it is the Google platform that allows developers to create augmented reality experiences for different devices, thus enabling the use of apps built with the ARCore SDK. To work, it is necessary that the mobile or tablet meets certain requirements and, therefore, appears on the list of compatible terminals.

Every so often, Google will create specific calibration profiles for new models and is adding more compatible devices to that list. In August, for example, they joined 28 terminals from brands such as Samsung, LG, OPPO, Realme or Xiaomi. Now, 17 other models have been incorporated, among which the latest Pixel launched by Google and two members of the Galaxy Note20 family from Samsung.

Google’s augmented reality system, whose mobile app is called ‘Google Play services for AR’, requires terminals to have certain sensors and sufficient power to do the necessary calculations. That is why, with each new terminal that hits the market, Google works together with the manufacturer to obtain the correct calibration.

Once that custom calibration profile for the new phone or tablet, it goes to list of compatible devices with Google’s augmented reality. In the latest update of this list, 16 new mobiles from various brands and one of the latest Samsung tablets have been added:

• realme X7 5G (in China)

• realme X7 Pro 5G (global version and Chinese version)

• Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G

• Samsung Galaxy Tab A7

• Sharp AQUOS zero5G basic

• Sharp AQUOS zero5G basic DX

• Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S

All the previous models, therefore, already allow you to download the Google Play Services for AR and start using any application or game that uses the AR SDK, like the AR + mode of Pokémon Go or the Google Measure app to measure the objects around you. And of course the famous animals in 3D.
