2020 has been a different year in many ways, but we have seen trends consolidate that had already begun when everything got out of hand. In Spain, and in other countries, the use of smart speakers has exploded, and companies like Google and Amazon are going to try to keep it increasing.
It has been the first that has seen some information leaked that indicates some characteristics of its new speaker, perhaps the successor to the Nest Hub.
This model, which has been seen in the form of an FCC document, would be the first in the family to use a Soli radar, the same one that we have seen in certain company experiments and in the Pixel 4.
This type of radar uses a technology that works on a very specific frequency, which is what has been shown in the documents. Perhaps it is used to detect the presence of a person or perhaps it enables hand gestures. The latter is the most likely since the frequency band between 58 and 63.5 GHz is mentioned, the same that the Pixel 4 uses.
In addition, the device would be compatible with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but also with the protocol Zigbee, which would allow Google to use the new speaker as a switchboard. Thus, we could control many other home automation accessories, such as those from Lidl.
Although at no time is the Nest brand mentioned, the description of the device is very similar to that made at the time of the members of this family, such as the Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, Nest Mini, Nest Wifi or Nest Audio.
At the moment we do not know more about this device, nor its shape or measurements, nor its launch date, much less its price or availability in countries like Spain.
The entry Google works on the most futuristic speaker in its history appears first in The Free Android.
