With the arrival of new Chromecast released in 2021, Google introduced a novelty: Android TV gave way to Google TV, the search giant’s new bet to bring its tentacles in the form of an operating system to more devices. A Google TV that now debuts on Sony televisions launched for the year that we have just started.
If in Sony models it was so far protagonist Android TVWith the new batch of televisions, the brand bets on Google TV. It is one of the novelties that we will see together with the presence of a processor, the Sony XR, intended to improve the image on the screen by simulating the functioning of our brain.
New processor and Google TV
Among the new models we are going to find, as is usual in the Japanese manufacturer, with models based on both in LED LCD panels and OLED panels for the most powerful televisions (we put 8K aside). All of them, except the most modest, have the Sony XR processor. In addition, they bet on the FALD (Full Array Led) backlighting system, the use of Google TV and connectivity HDMI 2.1.
In regards to the processor, The Sony XR, is the heir to the X1 Ultimate processor that we find in the current OLED AG9 and that is still present now only in the most modest model, it is a processor that the brand calls “cognitive”.
The firm advertises it as a system that, thanks to the use of a series of algorithms, can imitate how our brain looks at the content displayed on the screen. To achieve this, what it does is make an image processor selectively by dividing the image into different areas to detect where the user’s focal point may be and based on this, analyze the color, contrast and detail.
Now with Google TV
If until now, Sony was betting on Android TV as an operating system, now it gives way to Google TV. Google’s new bet in which a renewed interface created by Google arrives, which we could already see in the new Chromecast.
The operation is similar to that of Android TV, but with a design that reminds a lot of the one on Amazon’s Fire TV Stick regarding the home screen and menus.
On the initial screen we have personalized recommendations with series and movies from the main platforms, thus being an interface in which more importance is given to content and less relevance to applications, which have their own secondary tab.
On Google TV, we found some known news, as it is a new tab to find series and movie recommendations. In addition, Sony adds the Bravia Core platform, its own streaming service in collaboration with Sony Pictures.
In addition, in the most complete Sony models (Z9J, A90J and X95J), the brand has added a hands-free system integrated into the television itself so you don’t have to rely on the remote control when giving voice instructions.
Models and features
Among all the models, the most powerful is the Sony Master Series ZJ9. A Smart TV that offers a screen with 8K resolution in 75 and 85-inch diagonals.
It has the Full Array LED system, an LCD LED panel and together with the Sony XR processor, the brand introduces technology such as XR Triluminos Pro and functions such as Motion Clarity, Contrast Booster or X-Anti Reflection, to minimize reflections on the ambient light glass.
If we are looking for a model with an OLED panel, the most exclusive and powerful is the Sony Master Series A90J. In 55-, 65-, and 83-inch diagonals, it offers XR OLED Contrast Pro technology to increase peak brightness, overall brightness, and expand color volume. And already below it we find the Sony A80J, updating your Sony A8 OLED TV. Another 4K model with the new 4K processor, available 55-, 65- and 77-inch diagonal.
Among the LCD LED models with 4K resolution we find the Sony X95J, X90J and X85J. Full Array LED TVs that also have a Sony XR chipset, although only in the case of the X95J and X90J. Models that opt for HDMI 2.1 connectivity, which makes them compatible with 4K 120fps, VRR variable refresh rate, eARC and ALLM low latency mode. With all these data, this is the Sony TV catalog for 2021.
