Google Play Store is not working or is down: problems and solutions

“The Google Play Services application has been stopped”, a message that many users have received at some point on their smartphone, which will prevent us from downloading applications. How can I solve this problem? There is no single solution and it will depend on whether any of these cases have occurred.

Google Play Store this fall: what can I do?

Check if it is your fault or general fault

If the Play Store does not open or gives some kind of problem, the first thing is to detect if it is a general error or an error in your mobile. How? Enter Downdetector to see if more users are indicating that some kind of error is occurring. If so, it is best to wait until it is fixed. If not, try some of the other solutions.

Check your internet connection

Sometimes, despite indicating that it has a signal, our mobile does not connect well. Activate and deactivate Wi-Fi, mobile data and even Airplane mode. Then test again if the app store works.

Restart your mobile phone

We have already explained it to you before, but we repeat it: restarting the mobile solves problems. Therefore, try to restart your mobile and check if the Play Store does not open or if the error is fixed.

Check your Date and time settings

For some reason, if the Play Store does not detect the date and time correctly, it gives problems. Go to Settings and find the category of System. Then enter Date and Time and check that everything is properly configured. Activate the option Automatic date and time if not already; and disable it and set a manual time if it is active. Check if the Play Store is already open.

Make your mobile forget your Google accounts

Go to Settings and enter Users and accounts. Go to each Google account you have signed in to and select Remove account. Then use the option Add Account at the bottom of the screen to add them again.

Rehabilitate disabled apps

Go to Settings and then to Apps and notifications. Go into Application information and in the selector menu above select Disabled apps. Rehabilitate the system apps that you have disabled to ensure that you have not disabled any essential parts for the Play Store to work.

Disable the VPN

If you’re using a VPN to make it look like you’re accessing from another country, disable it.

Enable the download manager

Go to Settings and then to Apps and notifications. Go into Application information and click on the three-dot button at the top right. Choose Show system apps. Find the app called Download manager and make sure it’s enabled. Otherwise, enable it.

If you are rooted, delete the hosts.txt file

If your mobile is rooted, use a root file explorer to find and delete the file hosts.txt which is in the root / system path.

Uninstall updates from the Play Store

Go to Settings and then to Apps and notifications. Go into Application information and look for the Google Play Store. Enter and click on the three-dot button at the top right and choose Uninstall updates. Check if your Play Store already works. If it still doesn’t work, try installing the latest version again.

Reset Factory Settings

The most radical solution is to reset your mobile to zero. Go to Settings and enter System. Make sure that in the menu Backup copy you have activated the synchronizations you want. Then it falls into the category of Hola and return your mobile as recently sold.

“Google Play Services application has stopped” error

Although there is no single process to solve this problem, since it could be generated by the smartphone’s own software, such as RAM memory savers, for example, the following procedure should be useful to solve it, or at least, to be able to locate what is the which is causing the problem:

  1. Force stop and update Play Store:
Go to Settings and then to Apps and notifications. Go into Application information and look for the Google Play Store. Enter and click on Force stop. Download the latest apk from the Play Store from APK Mirror and install it on your mobile. With this you will ensure that you are in the latest version available, which should eliminate old bugs.
  2. Clear the cache of the Play Store:
With this method you will also try to start the application store from scratch. Go to Settings and then to Apps and notifications. Go into Application information and look for the Google Play Store. Enter and click on Storage and choose the option Clear cache. Try reopening the Play Store.
  3. Delete the data from the Play Store:
If the above doesn’t work, try the option Delete data found on the same clear cache screen.
  4. Clear the cache and data of Google Play Services and install the latest version:
Following the steps above, find the app called Google Play services and clears both cache and data. Then download from APK Mirror the latest version apk.

The Google store still doesn’t work, what can I do?

If this does not solve the problem, try the following.

Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 and uninstall the updates: If the above did not work, repeat the process again, but in each of the steps, before moving on to the next, uninstall the updates that could have been installed for each one of these apps. He Uninstall Updates button is in the same place as the Clear Data and Clear Cache, although at the beginning of the window. Uninstall updates from both Google Play Services and Google Play Store.

Finally, Clear data and cache from Google Play Services Framework. Again, go to Settings, Applications, and in all the apps on your mobile, locate Google Play Services Framework, to clear the data and cache. Lastly, restart your smartphone. When you turn it on, in a few seconds, some of the Google services that are activated should tell you that you must update the Google Play Services. When the updates have been made, you should no longer stop Google Play Services.

“Google Play mandatory authentication” error

Every now and then we get an error on our Android phone that we can’t understand, that doesn’t seem to make any sense. One of those errors that sometimes appears is that of Mandatory Google Play authentication. How can we solve it?

If it appears constantly what you should do is clear Google Play Store app data. How can you do this? You will have to go to Settings, and then search for Applications. Here go to the All tab and search then Google Play Store. Once this app is located, you just have to choose Clear data, and that’s it. You restart the app, closing it and opening it again, and this error will no longer appear.
