If you want to personalize the memories in Google Photos, so that they stop showing certain photos, people or dates, it is possible by following these steps.

Backup to Google Photos

Backup is one of the essential functions in Google Photos, although it is important to configure it properly. On the one hand, we have to activate this backup in the application, but we can also configure which albums we want to be copied in it, so if we want to do it only using data or WiFi. We therefore have several options when using this function in the app.

Activate backup

Open Google Photos.
Tap on your profile picture.
Enter the Settings
Go to Backup and Synchronization.
Activate the backup.

Select quality

Google Photos lets you select the quality in said backup, so that you will be able to have a higher quality in these photos, although this may take up more storage space in your account. The application gives us two options to choose from when saving the backup:

High quality: The reduced quality that compresses the photos, so that they are of maximum 16 Mpx and the videos are in Full HD resolution. The backup in this case is unlimited, because it does not take up storage space.
Original quality: Saves the photos and videos in their original quality, so if it is a photo of more than 16 Mpx, it will be in their original quality. This type of copy will take up more storage space.

Data or WiFi

The application allows you to choose if you want to use mobile data or WiFi for said backup. If you have a limited data rate, then it is best to use WiFi, especially if you use the original quality, which is heavier and will mean more consumption when executing the backup.

Albums to copy

Finally, when executing said backup in Google Photos, the application allows you to choose which albums or folders you want to save in said copy. You can choose if you want albums such as screenshots, WhatsApp or Instagram photos to be saved in it. In the backup section it is possible to choose which folders we want to be included in it.

Free up space

Over time, you may accumulate many photos in your account on Google Photos. If you have limited space, maybe every so often it is convenient for you to use the free space function, so that those images that are already saved in your backup copy are eliminated, leaving space for new ones. Thus, you keep your photos protected at all times, but you do not exhaust the space you have available in the app, especially if you use backups in the highest possible quality.

Open the app.
