Google Lens now translates without an internet connection

Surely many of you use more applications than most of the people in your environment, so it is likely that you also recommend more. In 2020 there is an application that I have recommended far above the rest, Google Lens.

In Spain, in this very different year, many restaurants and businesses have opted for QR codes to replace paper letters and menus. And it is not the only use.

Google Lens is a great choice for opening the links built into those layouts, but it’s also good for other things, like translating text.

Google Lens now translates without an internet connection

The latest innovation that comes to this application is the possibility of translating text without having to be connected to the Internet, something that until now was mandatory since OCR recognition and translation were done on Google servers.

With the latest update, this requirement is no longer mandatory, which will be useful when we travel the world again in a place where we may not have a data plan or a nearby Wi-Fi.

Of course, it is possible that the effectiveness of the service is not the same as with the operational connection, something that has already happened in other similar cases.

How to download languages

In order to use the translation without Internet, we need to download the language packs that we are going to use in advance. This is done in the translation section of Google Lens, by clicking on the icon that appears to the right of the language we want to translate.

If you want to try the new feature, you should use the beta version and wait for the update to arrive through a change in the servers.
