Google investigates a loading error that affects some apps to track Covid-19

To combat the pandemicOne of the tools we have at hand comes in the form of an application, or rather applications. Fruit of I work hand in hand between Google and Apple when launching a tracking system thanks to a new API, we saw different apps arrive, some of which are now experiencing problems.

It is at least what they quote in The Verge, where they affirm that since Google are studying a possible problem which affects the NHS COVID-19 app used in England and Wales, but also the app Crown melder used in the Netherlands.

CoronaMelder and NHS COVID-19

These are problems generated with in Android apps that use the Exposure Notification System in order to track and control the spread of COVID-19. In the two applications that have been affected for now, a failure is generated that causes them to take longer to load or perform regular exposure checks.

Both the NHS COVID-19 app used in England and Wales, and CoronaMelder in the Netherlands, are affected. When a user wants to use them, see how the screen freezes the load in the notification area. This is the response from a Google spokesperson:

“We are aware of an issue affecting Android applications developed with the Android exposure notification system. Our engineers are investigating the issue.”

The “Exposure notifications” can be found in the “Settings” and once inside in the “Google” section. When you click on “Notifications of exposure to COVID-19”, you will see that the tab is activated and if you click on the three points in the upper right area, you will see the option “Exposure checks” to be able to see the latest checks to know if you have crossed paths with someone with COVID-19.

For now only these applications have been affected, but it is to be expected that applications from other countries that also make use of the Android exposure notification system may be affected.
