Google extends the beta period of Android 12 with a new version before the final

We are a very short time from seeing the final and stable version of Android 12, but there is still at least one beta left before Google releases the final. This change has appeared by surprise in the developer website. And it could indicate that Android 12 would be ready just when the Google Pixel 6.

We have been since first Developers Preview with Android 12, tinkering with all the news that were coming to the operating system after successive DP’s and betas. From the beginning Google set a calendar of updates with the different versions along with their approximate date. This calendar is the usual one for each new major version of Android, but it is not common for Google to alter it to sneak new betas in between. With Android 12 it has happened.

Google marked from the beginning of the Developers Preview a calendar with three of those DP’s, four beta versions and a final version, a tour that Android 12 has been complying to the letter. This tour was reflected on the page for the beta, on the website for developers. Now, and by surprise, Google has changed the schedule to introduce a fifth beta version just before the final.

The fifth beta version, marked with a blue dot, will be distributed sometime in September, At least in the beginning. Google has not put a date on this version, nor on what will be the final and stable one. The most logical thing is that there is not too much left for the renewal in beta of Android 12, surely with important changes with respect to the previous beta number four.

Going into evaluations and conjectures, it would not be strange that Google distributed beta five this first week of September and reserved the final version for the middle or end of September. It could even be the case that Google has decided to extend the betas to release stable Android 12 with the Pixel 6, that expected for october. It is not the usual, but it is plausible.

We will walk with the Pixels in hand to update them to that beta five that is close to its distribution. We will see what changes Google has implemented and if they really deserve the Android 12 release planning break.
