From 3D animals to cars: Google places vehicles in your house by searching

Google expands the number of 3D elements in searches bringing ARCore’s augmented reality to cars. From now on, and always on certain vehicles, you will be able to see the car in 3D, move around the exterior and even look inside if you put it in your space thanks to AR.

The 3D animals were presented during the 2019 Google I / O, but it wasn’t until 2020 that its popularity spread. In large part due to confinement: as we all use the internet more intensively, we ended up finding those pills in the form of augmented reality that Google plugged into the search engine. Given the success, the company increased the number of animals, introduced dinosaurs and even Baby Yoda. Now, 3D cars park in our living room.

Look for a specific model and maybe it will appear in 3D

Just like Rajan Patel assured on Twitter, vice president of engineering at Google, the search engine has included various vehicles that will offer 3D visualization from the search itself. The user can see the vehicle from any angle by dint of touching and pinching on the screen. And you can get inside by projecting your model into space using ARCore’s augmented reality.

We have looked for different models and we only found the option in the Volvo XC40 Recharge. Rajan Patel assures that there are more than 250 cars in 3D, but we do not know if they have been deployed worldwide or if Google restricts most to certain territories, such as the United States.

The process to put the car in the living room is simple:

• Open the browser and load the Google page. You can also use the widget search or Discover.
• Write the car to search. You can try AR with the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
• You will see that the mark appears in the first result with a ‘View in 3D‘in the form of a label. Click there.
• Google will load the car modeled in three dimensions. You can rotate and enlarge it as you wish.
• To project it in your home, click on ‘See in your space’. Your mobile must be compatible with ARCore and have the app installed.
• Point the camera at a wide, free surface and the car will magically appear before your eyes.
• You can surround it mobile in hand, make it bigger, reduce the car and even if you approach the vehicle with the phone you can see it inside

The quality of the 3D models is very high, they allow you to get a real idea of ​​what the cars are like, the experience is extremely attractive and, above all, no applications to install since everything is achieved through Google search. And you can already try it.
