Fix the problem that there is no sound after hibernating

The first thing we should know in this regard is that Windows 10 can remember the volume that was set in the beginning. This refers to both an audio device and a particular application. For example, if we connect a headset to the Redmond operating system and set it to 50, Windows It will automatically change the volume to 50 the next time we connect the headphones. These are parameters that we must take into account, especially if we think about the enormous amount of multimedia content that we use at the moment on the PC.

It should be mentioned that this setting is not something that concerns the device, but the connection port. That is, the volume is set for devices that connect through the audio jack. Similarly, users can set specific volumes for an application, and Windows 10 will remember that in the future. In contrast, Windows 10 does not support changing the volume based on the sleep or boot states of the system.

By this we mean that the system volume cannot change when it is locked unless we use, for example, a scheduled task for it. It is also important to know that if the PC with Windows 10 it stops beeping after booting from sleep mode, this is not normal. Even if the system is simply muted, this is not initially expected behavior. Therefore we are going to show you some solutions if you see that Windows has no sound after hibernating.

Change Windows power plan

In the event, as we mentioned, that we run out of sound on PC After the system comes to sleep, it tries to change the power plan. To achieve this, we can open the Windows Control Panel. Next we go to the Hardware and Sound / Power Options path. At that moment, the power plans that we have defined on the PC will appear on the screen.

Here we will have to select a different power plan and then we let the operating system go to sleep. Then we bring it back to life and check the sound to see if it is already audible. If so, we need to delete the previously configured power plan and create a new one in its place.

Close all power management programs

In many cases, we use some specific applications in Windows to manage the system’s power in a more optimal way. Specifically, these are usually used to activate various events when the power state the computer changes. Therefore, if we experience some problems with the sound when exiting hibernation, we recommend that you exit all of them. Then we only have to hibernate it again and check if the failure has already been resolved. If so, we already know that one of those third-party programs is the cause of the failure.

Check the sound of each program

The failure with the sound after the return of hibernation of a Windows computer, can occur in a general way, or individually. With this, what we want to tell you is that the failure with the audio can be lost in the entire operating system globally, or in specific programs. That is why at this point it is advisable to check if you lose the sound

in a specific application.

As an example, after returning from hibernation mode, the VLC media player suddenly runs out of sound when we play a video here. Therefore, if all the running applications have audio except one, the problem is with it. Therefore the solution is to restart it, and if that doesn’t work, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Likewise, it will never hurt to update that program where we are detecting the failure with the audio to its most recent version.

Use the sound troubleshooter

Changing third, it is possible that we have a problem with the component sound of the PC, or even with the drivers or drivers of the same. Therefore we have the possibility of running the sound problem solver that Windows itself proposes. To do this we just have to open the Settings application, for example through the Win + I keyboard shortcut.

In the new window that appears we go to the section of Update and security where we look for Troubleshoot on the left panel. Now we just have to click on additional troubleshooters and in the next window we run the troubleshooter called Audio playback.

Update sound drivers

Another possible solution that could help us with the problem we are facing here is to update the drivers. With this, what we want to tell you is that it will never hurt to check if there is an update for the PC’s audio driver. If so, we must install it to solve the problem. This is something that we achieve from the Device Manager, where we locate the Audio Inputs and Outputs input.

Next we right-click on the audio device and select the Update driver option. This will start the actual update process, either manually or automatically. Of course, the most recommended thing here is to use the most recent official drivers released by the manufacturer of the sound device in question.

Set the maximum amount of memory

From what some users have reported, this is another solution that solves the problems with the sound when you wake up from hibernation. Specifically, we refer to the possibility of adjusting the maximum amount of memory in Windows. To do this, the first thing we do is use the keyboard shortcut Win + R to open the run box, where we write the msconfig command.

In the system configuration window that opens, we do not go to the start and we click on the Advanced Options button. Now we only have to activate the Maximum memory option where we set its value to 3072.

To finish with this change, click on OK and then on Apply. Once we have rebooted the system, the problem should be resolved.
