One of the basic Windows tools is File Explorer, a basic system function that nevertheless has interesting third-party alternatives. One of them is Files, an open source file manager that now prepares its arrival for Windows 11, where it will debut publicly in just over a month.

Files or Files UWP in its early days, is an alternative to the classic file explorer in Windows 10. A free tool that is also open source. An accessible project in GitHub that offers all the basic functions of Windows Explorer, with the addition that it does support tabs and also adopts Fluent Design and that now prepare your landing on Windows 11.

For Windows 11 October 4

After passing through Windows 10, version in which can already be used, the tool is currently in closed beta phase. A trial period that is about to end, because the developer has published in his twitter account a release date: October 4, 2021.

Files for Windows 10, we have already mentioned, allows the use of tabs with a design based on Fluent Design. What’s more, integrates almost all the functions that the classic Windows explorer already has in its context menu by right-clicking with the mouse. In addition, the application supports functions such as FTP access.

Files supports the use of themes and is a browser really attractive, both in the wearable and in the visual aspect, an aspect in which it stands out that it can use side panels, that is, you can view folders or files in two different locations in the same window, or the ability to access a preview of the files in the explorer by simply pressing the bar of space to name just a few improvements.
