We are going to see what this variant of creatures is about, as well as how to capture them and use a definition that we must also take into account. This definition is called ‘Purify’, which is a process that we can also apply to dark Pokémon.
What are dark Pokémon
First of all, you have to understand this type of Pokémon where they come from and what characteristics they have. This whole topic revolves around Team Go Rocket, the evil organization in the Pokémon world that is dedicated to creating dark Pokémon.
The idea is quite simple: Team GO Rocket appears invading some PokéStops and also flying over the skies on the map with balloons. Basically they are Pokémon whose heart has been corrupted by evil and must be rescued and purified, characterized by red eyes and a purple aura around them.
How to Capture Shadow Pokémon
In addition to looking different, the behavior also changes. Shadow Pokémon have the charged move Frustration, and cost Triple Candy and Stardust. The Pokémon you can capture will be one of those that the Team GO Rocket member has used during the battle.
Dark Pokémon are easily recognized as they have a purple aura around them and red eyes. You will have 5 Honor Balls to capture it similar to what happens in rewards of research tasks or raids. You should also know that the dark Pokémon have some special characteristics and differences:
- They cannot be traded with other players, they must first be purified to be able to exchange them.
- Always know the frustration attack, even after evolving them. They can be taught another movement with just a TM, but they cannot forget Frustration (except for an event that allows it).
- They cannot learn event moves, except those that are fast attacks.
- Shadow Pokémon receive a 20% bonus to the power of all your attacks, although its Defense is reduced to 83.33%.
How to Purify Dark Pokémon
And how do you return a dark Pokémon to its normal state? The answer is purifying them. And having purified Pokémon offers many benefits that make the process worthwhile. When you have one of these Pokémon, the first thing is that you have to find the dark Pokémon that you have stored. They have one purple flame near its image, similar to the silver stars of the Shiny Pokémon.
Once you have collected a Dark Pokémon, you will discover that there is a new option available on top of them called Purify. Purifying a Dark Pokémon will cost you one set amount of Stardust and Candy, depending on which Pokémon you want to purify and how strong it is. A Squirtle, for example, will need 2,000 Stardust and 2 Squirtle Candies to purify, while a Blastoise will need 5,000 and 5 Squirtle Candies. Finally, we confirm the purification and a scene will appear where the Pokémon is released.
