The first thing to keep in mind is that there are currently two types of Chromecast: the conventional device that allows us to send content from the computer or mobile phone or the Google TV model launched in 2020 that allows us to install applications and games without depending from other connected devices such as phone or tablet. In any case, in both options we can see Prime Video on Chromecast if we have an active Amazon account.
We must also bear in mind that Amazon Prime Video is not a free platform like YouTube, for example. To access the content we must register on Amazon Prime and pay a fee of 36 euros per year or be within the thirty-day trial period that is offered to new users. If not, we will not be able to access see the series and movies that it offers, even if you download it on Chromecast.
On Google TV
If you have a Chromecast with Google TV, the steps are different since you will not need to have a computer to send the content to, but only the device connected to the TV and that is previously linked to the Home application. Once you have it up and running, the steps to watch Prime Video on Google Chromecast are very simple and you just have to find the app and link it.
- Open Chromecast on your TV
- Go to the search engine at the top of the screen
- Type or speak (with the Google Assistant) “Amazon Prime Video”
- The possibility of downloading the application will appear: Prime Video – Android TV
- Tap on the “Install” button, as you see in the image below
When you have confirmed that you want to install, you will have to wait a few seconds or a few minutes for the Amazon installation on Google Chromecast to complete. You will see that it indicates that it is verified by Play Protect and you can cancel it at any time but better not touch anything until the installation is complete and we can continue with the installation and configuration process.
After a few seconds, Amazon Prime Video will be installed on the Chromecast and you will see a screen that allows you to log in, identify yourself with your account in the service to access the movies and series that are in it. Tap on “Identify yourself.”
There are two ways to log into Amazon Prime Video when you have already installed the app on your Chromecast with Google TV: scan a QR code or go to the page indicated on the TV screen to identify yourself or create an account. In the case of the QR, just use the camera application of your mobile and scan the code that appears on the screen to take you to a website where you will give your data.
If not, go to the website Primevideo.com/mytv from your phone or tablet. Here you will have to identify yourself with your email and password and you will see a box where you can enter the code that appears on the TV screen. Automatically when you enter the code on the phone, Prime Video will be activated on the TV and will allow you to access your profiles, accounts, series, movies.
On Chromecast
If you do not have the current model with Google TV, you can also send Amazon Prime Video content to Chromecast from your computer or mobile phone, although you must take into account a series of requirements. The first thing, both your computer or mobile and your Chromecast must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. And we must have previously configured it through the Google Home application …
- Connect the Chromecast
- Check that the mobile is connected to the WiFi network
- Go to your phone’s Home app
- Tap on the “+” in the upper left corner
- Choose the option “Configure device” and go to “New device”
- Choose the house in which you are going to add it
- Wait a few seconds for it to connect

- Follow the steps of the application
Once the Chromecast is properly connected to the TV and configured from the app, we must follow a few steps. You can do it from the browser or from the mobile phone and both options are valid for watching Prime Video on the TV if it is not a Smart TV or it is not compatible with the application.
From the browser
In the browser you must open Prime Video through primevideo.com and log in with your username and password. Once you are in the catalog, touch on the three points in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window and in the menu search for “Send …” and the devices you can send the screen to will appear together with an icon that tells you what they are (speakers, televisions …)
Choose “Chromecast” or whatever name you have and automatically the computer screen will be sent. They do not necessarily have to be in the same room so you can watch Prime Video on Chromecast, but you can send it from your office to the TV in the living room or from the living room to the bedroom, for example.
From the mobile app or tablet
You can also do it from your mobile phone or from your tablet. You must make sure that the device you are going to use is connected to the same WiFi network as the Chromecast to which you are going to send the content. You should also make sure of other aspects such as that the Amazon app is updated to its latest version or that the Google Play Services application for Android is also updated. Once you’ve done the necessary checks, all you have to do is touch a button.
Download the Prime Video app on your phone or tablet if you don’t already have it installed. Log in with your Amazon email and password and you will access all the content. Once inside the catalog or the movie or series that you want to broadcast on the Chromecast, look for the send icon that you will find in the bottom right of the app: a box with a WiFi icon in its corner.
Will appear “Send to device” and the compatible devices or gadgets to which you can send the application screen, if there is more than one. The window of sending directly from the app is that you will not do it with everything that happens on your phone but exclusively with the playback of Prime Video, which will be broadcast on Chromecast.
