Dirty Unicorns announces its death: one of the best custom ROMs shuts down its servers

The Dirty Unicorns team just announced that shut down your servers forever, saying goodbye to one of the best custom ROMs ever on Android. Dirty Unicorns once competed with giants such as LineageOS or Paranoid Android, with releases you were recent enough for devices like the Google Pixel 4a, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Y Moto G7 Plus.

The servers for this ROM, which has been operating since the days of Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), are shut down. After 10 years of life, this custom ROM says goodbye and it will no longer support those devices that have opted for it.

Goodbye to Dirty Unicorns

Dirty Unicorns has been in the Android landscape for 10 years, born as a custom version of Android ICS. Years later it was getting better and better, becoming more popular and complete in the Jelly Bean era. It was a ROM AOKP (Android Open Kang Project), quite clean and with useful additions for the user in terms of performance and customization.

Despite being a popular ROM, it did not reach the levels of CyanogenMOD (now LineageOS) or Paranoid Android, although it was always there when you were looking for an alternative ROM in some of the most popular mobiles of years ago. With this ROM we had outstanding functions such as a great audio equalizer, a complete theme engine, improvements for the status bar, etc.

As of today, March 16, Dirty Unicorns closes its servers and will not support existing versions. A small bump for custom ROMs, which lose an important companion.
