Carl Jung and Briggs Myers personality test

There are many personality tests in the field of psychology and human behavior. Among them is the one by Carl Jung and Myers Briggs, used all over the world, and which you can see an overview below.

The test in brief

In his Theory of the Psychological Type, the psychiatrist Carl G. Jung wrote that what appears to be random behavior is in fact the result of a different use of mental abilities. However, this work was not very accessible to the public, because its language was relatively complicated.

During World War II, Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, simplified and popularized Jung’s theory, whereby personality analysis is performed on a person’s “automatic” responses to a given situation.

The test is based on 4 categories, each of which results in a selection of 2 preferences. Therefore, there are 16 typical profiles.

To define your psychological type, there are many free tests available online. To get your result, you will need to answer a series of questions.

What is the Carl Jung and Briggs Myers Personality Test?

Extrovert (E) – Introvert (I)

The first category is the preferred world: the outer world for the Extrovert (E) or the inner world for the Introvert (I). The extrovert appreciates social connections and being with other people, while the introvert prefers to think, observe, and be alone.

Sensation (S) – Intuition (N)

The second is that of information: take it as it is for the sensation (S) or analyze it and give it a meaning for the intuition (N).

The most sensation-oriented individual is the Cartesian type and needs to experience something to validate its veracity. The one motivated by intuition will act more on his instinct.

Thought (T) – Feeling (F)

Then comes how to make a decision, directed either by Thinking (T for Thinking) or feeling (F for Feeling).

A person who prefers the Thought method will prefer to think well, weigh the pros and cons before making a decision, while the one driven by Feeling bets on the human, harmony and sensitivity.

Perception (P) – Judgment (J)

The way to approach the environment will be done by Perception (P) or by Judgment (J). People motivated by perception take thoughtful and planned actions.

Those who prefer Judgment like to improvise, act according to circumstances, and are often adept at procrastinating.

The 16 different types

There are 16 different results for this test:

Among those considered Analysts, we find the INTJ, the INTP, the ENTJ and the ENTP.

Diplomats are INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, and ENFP.

The profiles called “Sentinel” are ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTJ and ESFJ.

Finally, among the Explorers, we find ISTP, ISFP, ESTP and ESFP.
