This year we have seen a rebirth of calls and video calls around the world, Spain included. The global pandemic due to the coronavirus has triggered the use of this type of applications given the restrictions on mobility that we have seen in many cases.
Although apps like Zoom or Meet have grown the most, the reality is that platforms such as WhatsApp are the most used, especially in countries like ours where the penetration rate of this app among those who use smartphones is above the average. 90%.
Calls and video calls will arrive shortly on WhatsApp Web
These two functions have been available for a long time in mobile applications, but it has not been until now that developers have seen the intention of bringing them to the online version for computers.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the web version of this service is already implementing the necessary interface to use these two functions independently of the smartphone. Well, as independent as WhatsApp Web can be.
As we see in the images, at the top of the chat list we will have, next to the magnifying glass icon used to search, two new buttons. One will initiate a call with the contact we want, the other a video call.
When we press them, a floating window will open with the action executed, although as normal it will continue to depend on our mobile to make the connection.
We can accept or reject the call from that new window, as well as ignore the warning, so that our interlocutor does not notice that we do not want to speak.
Of course, it will use the microphone and webcam that we have on our desktop or laptop.
We do not know the exact date of implementation of these functions but the normal thing is that they will arrive en masse in a few weeks, before the end of the year.
The entry Calls and video calls will arrive on WhatsApp Web very soon appears first in The Free Android.
