What is Disney + about
The service primarily distributes movies and television series produced by Walt Disney Studios, as well as content from Marvel, Stars Wars and National Geographic. The platform not only offers what the Disney company has already produced long ago, but it also focuses on launching new productions in its catalog, with original series and films for the platform since it was launched in November 2019. Mulán or The Mandalorian they are the most clairvoyant examples.
Disney + focuses on family entertainment based on Disney brands, but forks its offering with more general content offered through the Hulu platform, or ESPN to offer a service more focused on broadcasting sports. In total and estimated, it has a catalog of 7,500 episodes of series and 500 films, a figure that will increase with the new productions.
How is the Disney + app
The app itself does not have much mystery, it does not bring an innovative idea about the distribution of the elements compared to Netflix or HBO. Therefore, once we contract a specific rate, we find a clearly laid out and easy to navigate interface. On the main screen, we have a header with the most popular or followed productions. Below, we have a series of categories that are divided between the recommendations that the app makes us based on what we see, in addition to some widgets to access the contents of Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic, among others.
Next, we have three more sections, reduced in one bottom bar where we can find a specific series or film, a section for downloads, since it allows the visualization of offline content; and a last section dedicated to managing the account in case we want to change plans, cancel the subscription or configure notifications. It is important to emphasize that the app is only compatible for mobiles with Android 5.0 or higher.
In addition to viewing content offline, Disney + allows other very interesting options to take into account, although we already see them on other platforms. Among them, the one that stands out the most is the function GroupWatch, that allows users to view content simultaneously. Subscribers can view any content with friends and family virtually through the app. Its operation is as simple as joining a virtual room for up to 7 people where you can pause, rewind and react together. It’s like Netflix Party, with the difference that GroupWatch is integrated into the app itself.
Disney + rates and prices
Fans can subscribe to Disney + directly on the web disneyplus.com or through the Android application, which can be downloaded from the Play Store. Unfortunately, the subscription to the Disney + platform is immediate, so we do not have a trial time available, which is usually 7 days. However, it is also available through several strategic allies in Europe such as Telefonica in Spain that offers the service in Movistar +.
Unlike Netflix, there will be no multiple subscription plans and prices. There will only be one: the price of Disney Plus is currently 6.99 euros or 69.99 euros per year in Spain. This plan will allow us up to four simultaneous streams to be able to enjoy it as a family and up to seven user profiles for each account created. Each of the accounts has its own recommendations and history, so there will be no data crossovers.
