Android updates each time arrive faster

If there is a recurring theme that takes asking for to Google fix on Android almost since its inception without a doubt, the fragmentation. Due to the way in which is built the system, and how it relates to Google with the rest of manufacturers, and carriers, although each year there is a new version of the operating system the reality is that users typically used versions much earlier.

In recent times we have seen Google make big steps to try and solve this, with strategies such as Project Treble on Android Oreo, or the Project Mainline in Android 10. And it seems to work.

Android 10 is the version of the system with a higher refresh rate

The team of Android development have published an article on his blog in which he shows us in a graph, the adoption rate of the latest three major versions of Android, Android 8 Oreo, Android 9 Foot and Android 10.

As you can see, over the last few years the speed at which you have updated the mobile is growing. If we look at the same period of time since the launch of every version, Android 10 has been installed in 28% more devices than Android-9. And that already had a substantial improvement with regard to Android 8.

The Android updates will improve this year

Google are aware that this has a lot of room for improvement so to Android 11 go to combat fragmentation in various ways.

  • It continues the collaboration with various manufacturers to have beta versions available even before the release of the official version. In the case of Android 11 we already told you that mobile could install the trial versions.
  • The The Google Play Store and the Google Play Services will continue to gain in importance at the time of upgrade parts of the system. In Android 11 there will be nine functions that you will be able to improve without the need of releasing a new OTA: Tethering, NNAPI, Receipt of Emergency Alerts, adbd, Internet Key Exchange, a Provider of Media, statsd, WiFi and SDK extensions.
  • It will also improve the Generic Kernel Image (GKI) for the security updates to reach more mobile and more quickly.
  • Finally, in Android 11 may apply updates in the backgroundso that the mobile will receive the OTAs and does not interrupt the operation of the terminal for the user. Will be installed in the next reboot of the terminal.

Obviously, these figures are still far from those achieved by Apple in its iPhone, but taking into account the type of system of the company from Cupertino and what Google tries to do it, we do not believe that in no time Android will go closer to the dimensions of iOS, as we saw in April.

The entrance to Android updates each time arrive faster appears first in Android Free.
