After four versions for developers and three beta versions, Google officially launches Android 11. The final version of the new version of Google’s mobile operating system begins to reach the first devices today.

Android 11: what’s new

  • Improved notifications: The notification bar is renewed to be divided into three sections: Conversations, Notifications and Silenced.
  • Notification history: Now we can see the complete notification history.
  • Priority in conversations: All messages will be grouped in the new section of Conversations. There we can establish the priority of the conversations so as not to miss any important message.
  • Chat bubbles: now you can chat from any application thanks to chat bubbles.
  • Screen recording: the quick setting bar finally integrates screen recording. Audio from the microphone and / or audio from the device can be recorded.
  • Domotics: you can manage all your smart devices from the shutdown menu.
  • New multimedia control: now in the quick settings bar the multimedia notification will appear, which allows us to quickly change the device on which the content is played.
  • Android Auto Wireless: With this version and a compatible vehicle, it will no longer be necessary to link your mobile phone to the car by cable to use Android Auto.
  • Single use permission: for the most sensitive permissions such as microphone, camera and location you can say that the application can only access that permission once.
  • Automatic restart of permissions– Permissions will be reset automatically when we haven’t used an app for a long time.
  • More modules to update through Google Play: more additional modules arrive to the updates of the Google Play system. So Google can update more security and privacy fixes on your mobile without having to depend on the manufacturer.
  • Android Enterprise: the new version brings more privacy protections from a personally owned device to company-owned devices. Your company’s IT department will not be able to monitor your personal profile data or activity on your phone.

Compatible phones

Google confirms that Android 11 begins to be implemented as of today. The first to have the update available are the Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a and Pixel 4. Also the update will come from today to several models of OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO and Realme, surely the same models that a few months ago received the beta.

How to update

If you have a Pixel you can now update from Settings> System> Advanced> System update> Check for updates. If your Pixel was already updated to Android 11 Beta, the update will be about 11 MB. If you have Android 10 the update will occupy more than 1 GB.
