Android 10 is present in less than 1 of every 10 devices, according to the latest data from distribution versions

Traditionally, Google kept us updated on the fragmentation of Android with the monthly data distribution of versions of Androidbut it is now more than a year stopped updating the data. Almost a year after the last data, we have new figures from versions of Android and, as usual, they didn’t bring much good news.

Google continues to not publish the data of versions in their web, but the data for order to appear up to date in Android Studio. Seven months later its launch, Android 10 is on only 8.2% of Android terminals.

Android Walk version is more used

Google didn’t give us new numbers about the distribution of versions of Android from may 2019when Oreo was going to be the version most prevalent in 28.3% of the devices, and then the most recent version, Android Foot, was installed in 10.4% of the devices. Almost a year later, we are more or less in the same, changing Android Walk Android 10.

Yes, Google has changed how we display these data. Not to be found in their web page, with easy access for any person, but are “hidden” in Android Studio, and with figures of cumulative distribution. It is a metric useful for developers, as they may be as well to know in what percentage of versions to operate your application. This is because the apps compatible with older versions of Android are compatible with later versions, but not the other way around.

We must therefore pull out the calculator and do a simple calculation to extract the actual percentage of each version of Android, combining the percentages of the sub-versions of Android (like Oreo 8.0 and 8.1), in order to get an idea more easy to understand how are the versions of Android in the year 2020. This is the result:

As a long time ago that Google does not give us the data, it is difficult for us to compare what is the deployment of Android 10 with respect to previous versions, although it does not seem very different from what we have seen before: within six months of launch, the Android versions are usually around 10% of distribution.

Today, Android 10 is in fewer devices to Lollipop, a version of six years ago. For its part, Android Foot, will rise with the gold in the distribution of versions, being in almost 1 of every 3 devices active after a year and a half of its launch. This is the top-10:

  • Android Walk – 31,3%

  • Android Oreo – 21,3%

  • Android Nougat – 12,9%

  • Android Marshmallow – 11,2%

  • Android Lollipop – 9,2%

  • Android 10 – 8,2%

  • Android-KitKat – 4%

  • Android Jelly Bean – 1.7 Per Cent

  • Android Ice Cream Sandwich – 0,2%

Taking into account that lately many devices are receiving the long-awaited update to Android-10it’s very likely that the figure is likely to increase considerably in the next few weeks. What is see is if Google will start to update the figure with frequency or leave us in the dark for another six months.
