Amazon Prime Video adds after Netflix and YouTube the call made by the authorities of the European Union to reduce the quality of the transmitted content and reduce as well the tensions that the community networks are sufiendo these days because of the increase in traffic.
The european commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, had been contacted over the past few days with the heads of YouTube and Netflix in order to express the need to adopt measures that to avoid a collapse of the internet in Europe because of increased demand provoked by the restraints derived from the health crisis of the coronavirus.
This measure is now added Amazon Prime Videoaccording to have confirmed from the company Xatakathat is “working with local authorities and providers of Internet services, in all cases where it is necessary, to help mitigate any congestion in the network.”
From Prime Video, they say, support “the need for careful management of telecommunications services” with the objective that the increase in traffic will not result in a collapse. Therefore, in Europe they are reducing the rates of transmission of bits in a general way.
This measure, they point out, is adopted “always keeping to an experience of ‘streaming’ quality” for your customers and you do not have a clear date of order. Your application will terminate when no longer needed.
From Netflixfor its part , has reduced the rate of bitrate in all of its contents in Europe for a period of 30 days. With this, it is estimated that it will reduce the traffic on its platform in the european network of around 25 %. In the case of YouTubethe measure adopted implies that temporarily all of the traffic of the European Union will receive the “standard definition by default”, and, as in the case of the platform VOD, the limitation will be 30 days.
At Spanish level, the main operators in the country joined to launch a joint statement at the beginning of the week in which they asked the society to a responsible use and rational of the network
in order to avoid its saturation.
