A basic design, simple and with a focus on video calls

The most striking change to the front is in the location of the camera. This change responds to the increase in video calls during the months that we have lived, and the Fire HD8 is ready from day one to respond to this need in applications like Zoom.

One of the less powerful aspects of the approach to video calls is the absence of Google Duo and Meet, two of the most widespread video calling applications, not being in the Amazon App Store. Even downloading the APK files, they will not work as Google Play services are not installed. One of lime and another of sand in this sense.

Another of the most relevant changes in the new design is in the change of port. Instead of the old microUSB, the new Fire HD8 makes the leap to the USB C port, which is reversible, more resistant and compatible with your mobile charger. We also appreciate the headphone jack and power and volume buttons on the same side.

Moving to the corner we find a tab that when we open it we can access an expansion slot for microSD cards. It is compatible with cards up to 1 TB, so we can install a card to save hundreds of hours of multimedia content.

Fair performance and multimedia, exceptional battery

At the performance level, it is to be expected that, given its extremely low price, we will find a moderate power. In this sense, there are no surprises, and that is that its quad-core processor, with 2 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of expandable storage offer the minimum experience.

Forget about playing powerful games, although casual titles will work without problems. The best use that you can use this tablet is for web browsing, reading Kindle books or PDF documents and multimedia consumption.

Despite being a devicelow cost, is certifiedWidevine L1, which makes it compatible with content such as Netflix in HD. The quality of the screen is far from surprising (it is a normal panel), but having sufficient resolution there is a wide difference between the devices that support this certification and those that do not. Its two speakers also contribute to an experience that without being spectacular, is good enough.

In terms of battery, the Amazon Fire HD8 delivers like a champion. To a certain extent, the limitation of its processor in performance and the inability to play high-demand games have an effect that the use will always end up being moderate. It’s easy to use this tablet for more than 8 hours and still have some battery left for extra time.

Amazon Fire OS experience

Although the system is based on Android, the Fire HD have Fire OS, an Amazon version based on the Android code, but without Google applications and services. Historically there have always been methods to install them (and we’ll do a tutorial for this model shortly) but if you don’t want to fiddle with it a lot, you’re going to have to live with the Launcher and Amazon applications.

Beyond the shortcuts to applications, we have sections integrated with the experience of Amazon services, being able to access our Kindle books or Amazon Prime Video series and movies.

Although we do not need to be subscribed to Amazon Prime, the integration that the Fire HD8 has with Amazon services makes it highly recommended.

A cheap tablet for Black Friday

The Amazon Fire HD8 is a tablet that offers much more than what we could ask for given its price. What is exceptional here is not that it offers heart attack characteristics, but rather the fact that it continues to function perfectly. The same model that I tried in 2017, we ended up buying it for my mother and there it is, working perfectly 3 years later.

Due to its resistance and durability, it is an excellent device for children (even so, it is advisable to get special covers for more protection), people who are going to do basic use such as surfing the internet or reading articles from the sofa, as well as students who want to carry In his backpack a device to read PDFs of the subjects or view multimedia files during long university days without having to carry a heavy computer.

If you plan to use a tablet to play games or receive a premium experience, it is definitely not the ideal tablet, far from it. But did you think it was possible for so little? The most basic cost69.99 euros on Black Friday.
