Harmony OS is Huawei’s own operating system, which presented its new version in August, and the brand hopes to use it on its phones shortly. The company has been preparing this operating system for some time so that its phones will be able to use it, in addition, it was confirmed weeks ago that mobile phones with EMUI 11 will be able to update to this version, something that is expected to also happen with the brand’s models in Spain.
It will be next year when we can see the Huawei’s first phones upgrade to Harmony OS 2.0. In addition, it has already been revealed which phones will be the first to have access to this update.
Huawei’s Harmony OS will be a great rival to Android by being Open SourceAlthough Harmony OS is not an exclusive operating system for mobiles, when it is launched as Open Source, it becomes a direct rival to Android.
The processor will be what determines which Huawei phones are the ones will have access to Harmony OS 2.0. The first are expected to be the devices with Kirin 9000, which is the processor that we will see in the next Huawei Mate 40 this fall. After these devices, the phones with Kirin 990 5G would be the next to have access to it (the Huawei P40 series).
This year’s high-end will not be the only one to have access, as Huawei will also launch its operating system for phones using Kirin 985 and Kirin 820 as processors. In addition, also the devices of the brand with Kirin 980, Kirin 810 and Kirin 710 will have access to it. So this operating system would be launched for phones that have been on the market for more than two years.
While this list of processors has been announced, it is not known if all phones using such processors they will have access to the update or not. The final phone list is not known for now, something that Huawei itself is expected to announce.
In principle, it would be a long list of phones that will have access to Harmony OS from next year. In addition, it seems that the brand will not be responsible for forcing the update on those phones, but will give users the possibility to update, so each one can decide if they want to use this version or not.
