Are you tired of traffic jams? The best solution is a vehicle (electric or motorized) that can circulate through the space intended for pedestrians. But are there any?

The Segway PT, better known as Segway, responds well to this condition. It is a means of transportation that is produced by Segway Inc. In what follows, the term “Segway” will be used to designate the vehicle and not the signature.
It facilitates the day to day given the possibility of moving through the pedestrian zone. The following information will tell you everything you need to know about this revolutionary invention.

Segway or Segway?

Sometimes you listen to Segway and sometimes Segway, but is there a difference? The answer is yes and no. In fact, a Segway is a completely stable single-seater electric vehicle, but with the status of a “pedestrian”. And the Segway is a Segway developed by the company Segway Inc. Therefore, we can use these 2 terms to designate the same vehicle.

It takes a little history

The founder of Segway Inc is Dean Kamen, renowned inventor. It was created in 1999 but it was not until 2002 that the first Segways were put on sale (on Amazon.com).

Over the years, the Segway has continued to evolve (long-lasting lithium-ion battery, advanced computer program, etc.). This is the 2005 XT off-roader.

The second generation of Segway saw the light in 2006.

In 2015, the first hands-free Segway was born.

How does it work ?

The principle of the Segway is quite simple. To move forward or slow down, all you have to do is lean forward or backward. Therefore, its movement depends on how the user uses his body. The handlebars are useful for steering this vehicle.

It self-stabilizes both when stationary and in motion. This is possible thanks to the 5 gyroscopic sensors with which it is equipped. All 3 detect movement and all 2 are emergency gyros.

And autonomy in all this?

The Segway is equipped with 2 long-lasting lithium-ion batteries. Don’t worry, with these batteries you can travel a minimum of 25 km. It is even capable of doing more (40km) during a full charge cycle.

To recharge the batteries, a standard electrical outlet is sufficient. Charging time is about 8 hours.

Other pretty important information

In addition to the 5 gyros and 2 batteries, the Segway is equipped with 2 identical computers and 2 accelerometers. One is the main one and the other will take over in the event of a breakdown. 4 electric motors are also present.

Certainly it moves with the lean of the body, but there is a certain weight restriction to respect. You can only drive if your user weighs between 40kg and 120kg.

As for speed, it can reach 20 km / h – this is its maximum speed. However, in an urban environment, you should not drive faster than 6 km / h.
