The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Active 2 will soon activate the electrocardiogram and blood pressure recording in Spain

Samsung has announced that two star features of its latest wearables, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Active 2, will finally arrive in Spain: the recording of blood pressure and the electrocardiogram, after receiving European approval that allows it to be activated in 28 EU countries, in addition to Chile, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 was launched in August 2019 and, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, a year later, with the promise of advanced health records such as fall detection, VO2Max, electrocardiogram or blood pressure, although with a big drawback: these functions did not come from the factory. Two of them already have, at least, an estimated date to reach the users’ bracelets: from February 4.

The ECG and blood pressure finally come to an end

After receiving the certification of European conformity in December last year, Samsung can bring Samsung Health Monitor and its advanced health record functions to 28 European countries, including Spain.

Until now, was only available in South Korea. In addition to the new European countries, users in three other countries will be able to use the EKG and blood pressure recording soon. This is the total list of supported countries:

For recording blood pressure, it will be necessary to first calibrate the result using a traditional meter. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 use the included heart rate sensor, using precalibration to estimate pressure through pulse wave analysis.

Regarding the electrocardiogramBoth the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 have an exclusive sensor, and no prior calibration is necessary. Instead, the process consists of opening the Samsung Healh Monitor and starting the measurement, sitting down and with the watch snug on your wrist.

Samsung has announced that EKG and blood pressure monitoring It will be available progressively from February 4, 2021, in supported countries and through the Samsung Health Monitor app.
