In 2019, the main telephony brands began to bet on folding mobiles, devices that allowed to change the form factor with a simple movement. Samsung delved into it in 2020 and it seems that in 2021 we will see many more brands follow that strategy.
We knew that Xiaomi was working on more than one folding. In fact, some time ago they showed a prototype, a model that would lead to the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha that finally did not reach the markets.
This is the new Xiaomi folding
However, what has been seen today on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, are real photographs of a model that, until now, had only been seen in patent images.
This terminal has a form factor almost identical to the original Samsung Galaxy Fold, opening like a book and with a small external screen that does not occupy the entire front.
In the images of the patents we see what that front area is like since in the photos obtained in public transport in a city in China we only see the interior.
In this area we see how the screen has a considerable size and it seems that it uses a plastic finish, at least that is what we deduce from the more than notable wrinkle that appears in the central area.
And how do we know that it is a Xiaomi mobile? Well, because of the software. It is clear that MIUI is what that terminal uses, which could well be a prototype but when using a cover that hides its design, it rather seems to be a test unit of a real device.
As always, these types of images must be taken with caution, although they are very similar to the first photos that we always see of the flagships of Chinese brands in transport in their city, when a fan notices what is in front of him and shares it on their social networks.
The entry The new Xiaomi folding appears in real photographs appears first in The Free Android.
