Qualcomm has been overtaken: who's selling the most processors in 2020 1

All the mobiles sold in Spain have a common denominator, and it is in the internal architecture. Whether you have Android or iPhone, they use processors based on ARM technology, a company that licenses its architecture so that others can modify it and sell their own processors.

Based on ARM we have companies like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Nvidia (who recently bought ARM) and MediaTek, although there is one that for many is the great reference, and has just been recently surpassed.

MediaTek overtakes Qualcomm and becomes ARM leader

For years Qualcomm has been the benchmark brand for Android phones. The best mobiles on the market stand out for the use of processors from the Californian company and year after year it manages to surpass itself, in addition to giving life to many mobiles in medium and low ranges.

MediaTek, on the other hand, has long had a bad name for processors that did not perform very well or had problems with GPS. Despite all this, in recent generations they have managed to place themselves in the Xiaomi and realme entry ranges with very good results, something that seems to have contributed to the company rising with the leadership of mobile processors.

The analysis mentions that Huawei’s ban has helped MediaTek grow in India and Latin America. It also highlights that the number of Xiaomi mobiles with MediaTek processors has tripled, something that makes sense having reached several of Redmi’s best sellers.

Despite being a leader in sales, MediaTek still has work to do in the higher ranges, something that could be positive in the long term to have a more competitive market and with better prices.
