Microsoft Releases Build 22478 for Windows 11 on the Dev Channel with Two New Fully Redesigned Wallpapers and Emojis

Microsoft has released Build 22478 within the Dev Channel in the Insider Program. A new build for Windows 11 aimed at preparing the update that should arrive throughout 2022, so it is separated from the improvements that we see in the updates that arrive in the Beta Channel and Release Preview.

And the first thing that catches your eye is the reminder that this is the seventh anniversary of the Windows Insider program, which is why they have released two new special wallpapers designed by the Microsoft design team. Along with this comes the possibility of use Windows Hello with external monitors, update stack improvements, new emojis… and more than now we review.

What’s new in this Build

  • They are testing update stack packages that offer update improvements outside of major updates operating system, such as new builds.
  • Dev Channel builds now expire 9/15/2022 while older Dev Channel builds from RS_PRERELEASE branch will expire 10/31/2021.
  • Two new special wallpapers have arrived designed by Microsoft’s design team with support for dark theme and for him clear theme.

Emoji Panel New Emoji Hero

  • New emoji come to Windows 11 on the Dev Channel, including the well-known Clippy and it does so before its arrival to the rest of the users. Emojis like face in the clouds, heart on fire, space with spiral eyes and many more. To see the new emojis you just have to open the emoji panel with WIN +. Also added support for Unicode emoji up to Emoji 13.1.

Changes and improvements

Compilation

  • The updated version of the Korean IME, which started rolling out with build 22454, is now available to everyone on the Dev Channel.
  • When the computer is off, now it is possible to log in to the PC using face recognition (Windows Hello) on a connected external monitor if you have a compatible connected camera.
  • They have made a change to the underlying indexing platform to help improve the overall reliability and size of the database, which should help reduce the use of disk space on the system, particularly in cases where users they had very large Outlook mailboxes.
  • Rolling the mouse wheel over the volume icon on the taskbar will now change the current volume level.
  • Have been added small adjustments in the dialog by adding a new language in “Settings” to make it look a bit more modern, including rounding the corners.

Corrections

  • In the Start menu the keyboard focus will no longer be lost if ESC is pressed after opening the user profile side menu in Start.
  • Updated message text when pinning something from a UWP app to Start, so now it just says “Do you want to pin this to Start?”
  • In the taskbar, we fixed an issue that caused the Notification Center to get stuck in a state in recent builds where it would stop starting.
  • The plus icon for adding a new desktop will now display correctly hovering over the Task View icon on the taskbar when using the Arabic and Hebrew languages.
  • After opening an app’s jump list from the taskbar, right-clicking on the app’s name should now display the correct icon for Pin to Start.
  • Left and right clicking on the taskbar at the same time should no longer block explorer.exe.
  • In File Explorer, we fixed an issue where the command bar would perform unnecessary calculations when navigating to folders, causing an unexpected decrease in performance. This is also believed to be the main cause of performance issues when using dragging to select files, as well as using arrow keys to navigate certain folders.
  • The “Show hidden items” option should no longer get out of sync when multiple File Explorer windows are opened.
  • Fixed the widget dashboard appearing empty.
  • Fixed widgets displaying the wrong size on external monitors. this problem and the previous one have been fixed with version 95 of Microsoft Edge.

  • The recent searches drop-down menu when hovering over the search icon in the taskbar should no longer be immediately dismissed on invocation if an admin window is in focus.
  • Setting the focus to the search box in File Explorer should not cause the touch keyboard to be invoked and dismissed immediately now when using a tablet with the taskbar set to auto-hide.
  • Fixed a Issue causing the handwriting pad to not insert text when it was used to write in Chinese.
  • Fixed a memory leak that could occur in ctfmon, causing unexpected use of resources over time.
  • Addresses an issue for a small number of users that caused TextInputHost.exe to fail when setting focus to any text field.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Settings to crash when option buttons were updated, for example if you connected an additional audio endpoint while the Sound page in Settings was open.
  • The performance of loading themes shown in the customization settings has been improved.
  • If a non-admin user changes their display language in Language “Settings”, it will no longer show the clickable logout button there as it was opening a UAC dialog and causing confusion .
  • The Windows Update entry at the top of the system page in Settings it should no longer be misaligned with the other options (when displayed) in languages ​​such as German.
  • The Braille options in “Settings” for Narrator users should now be in sync with the actual status of the Braille input / output mode.
  • A change was made to help fix an issue where “Media Streaming Options” in the Network and Sharing Center unexpectedly reverted to default settings after an update.

  • Fixed an issue where if you clicked the Media Controls area in Quick Settings, the application would not display in the foreground in certain cases.
  • Fixed an issue where item colors in Quick Settings could get stuck and not reflect the proper color for that state, especially when using a contrast theme.
  • Quick Settings page updated to manage the audio terminals from “Volume” to “Sound Out”.
  • Opening the page for managing audio endpoints in Quick Settings should no longer cause a short cut in audio playback when multiple devices are listed.

Build 2

  • Fixed an issue related to using ALT + Tab very quickly which could cause explorer.exe to crash.
  • Holding ALT and pressing F4 after pressing ALT + Tab will no longer crash explorer.exe.
  • When using the Arabic or Hebrew display languages, when dragging an application window to a different desktop, the thumbnail should now display moving in the correct direction.
  • Fixed an enclosure issue that caused LP.cab files to be unexpectedly removed in certain cases, which could lead you to change the display language until you add the desired display language again in Settings.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some users to see a bug check with the error “KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_ERROR”.
  • Mitigated an issue that caused the SysMain service to use an unexpected amount of power on recent builds.
  • If the display order is missing in the BCD settings, that should no longer cause an update error.
  • Fixed an issue that caused captions to be drawn at the wrong scrolling in certain apps.
  • An issue that caused crashes related to audiosrv.dll was mitigated.
  • If you are going through OOBE with an Arabic or Hebrew display language, the volume and accessibility buttons should appear on the correct side of the screen now.

Known issues

  • Users who upgrade builds 22000.xxx, or earlier, to newer Dev Channel builds using the latest Dev Channel ISO, may receive the following warning message: “The build you are trying to install has Flight Signed. To continue with installation, enable flight signature If you receive this message, press the Enable button, restart the PC and try the update again.
  • Some users may experience reduced sleep and screen timeouts. They are investigating the potential impact that shorter screen and idle times could have on power consumption.
  • In some cases, you may not be able to enter text when using Search from the start or the taskbar. If you experience the problem, press WIN + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog, then close it.
  • The taskbar sometimes flickers when changing input methods.
  • They are working on a problem that caused a tooltip to appear in an unexpected location after hovering over the corner of the taskbar.
  • After clicking the search icon on the taskbar, the search panel may not open. If this happens, restart the “Windows Explorer” process and reopen the search panel.
  • The search panel may appear black and not display any content below the search box.
  • They are investigating reports from Insiders that the volume and brightness sliders are not displaying correctly in Quick Settings.
