When we talk about statistics or metrics in a social network we look at content creators and Community Managers in general, after all, they are the ones who use this social network as one of the main tools to work with. However, there is also a significant number of private users, generally the younger ones, who are very pending of the likes and the visualizations of the contents published by themselves and those around them.
Advantages and disadvantages of hiding likes
The likes, rather the total number of a publication, is a piece of information that can be very valuable and at the same time stressful, depending on your personality or how you use it. It is interesting to activate or hide them.
Advantage
When the statistics of likes, number of comments, reproductions … become a nightmare or exert excessive pressure, they can cause problems of anxiety, stress … even fear in users. For this reason, it has been shown that many of the people who manage social profiles on Instagram have found it a real release to be able to hide the number of likes and the reproductions of the publications, both own and others.
From the social network they had detected that many users temporarily deactivated your account to free yourself from the pressure of being very aware of the visualization statistics on a day-to-day basis. This operation can be carried out from any web browser (computer and mobile) to which you access the profile configuration. Purpose of this tool
At the beginning of 2021 it has been testing in some users chosen as a sample this option to hide the records, since the end of last May 2021 the function is available to everyone. The decision that has been made has been to activate an option in which each user can choose if they want to hide the likes on Instagram or keep them. In addition, this option is active both for the publications that we see in our chronology and in our own publications, so the other users will not control our records and statistics either.
The main objective is that we give priority to the content that we see and publish, that we look at the photos, videos and texts, forgetting the impact they may have had with the number of likes or views. When we are content creators we can become seriously obsessed with the content and the types of publications according to the impact they have on the audience and end up publishing content with the same structure and the same themes. Hiding these types of statistics allows us to think longer-term and develop our creative power more freely and without pressure.
How to hide
They are different processes, to hide the likes of the other publications we will have to do it from the setup menu of the application, while the hiding of likes in our posts is in the Advanced configuration from the publish menu.
My account
To hide the likes of our publications and the statistics of reproduction of the videos that we publish ourselves we have to follow these steps from the official application for Android or iOS:
- Once we have chosen image (or images), or videos to publish, and once the filter that we like the most has been applied, on the screen to add the text, the location and the labeling we will go to the bottom and click on Advanced configuration.
- We activate the checkbox Hide likes and views counts in this post.
- We can review other options such as Disable comments, Add collaboration tag paid or write alternative text.
- Click on the icon to return Behind in the top left-hand corner.
- We share posting as we usually do.
This process is valid for the publications that we are going to make, but we can also hide these indicators in old posts, for this we must do the following:
- Let’s go to the publication in question.
- Click on the icon Setting of that publication “…” in the upper right corner of it.
- We choose the option Hide likes and views counts (If it is an image, the displays will not appear).
It is important to bear in mind that with this option we hide the number of likes and views from others, but we will continue to see those statistics. In addition, this only affects the publications we make in the News section, the “standard” posts. The video view count for the Reels or IGTV section will continue to be visible to you and your followers.
Other accounts
If what we want is hide the likes of other people’s publications that we see from our profile we must know that it can only be activated in a general way, it is not an operation that can be carried out specifically for a specific publication or profile. This operation is only possible from the official App on Android or iOS, the steps to follow are these:
- Click on the icon of our profile picture in the lower right corner of the app.
- We touch the icon of menu (the three horizontal stripes) in the upper right.
- We are going to Setting and then to Privacy.
- Inside section Interactions we choose Publications.
- We activate the box (at the top) Hide likes and views counts.
From this moment on, all the publications that we see in the news section They will not show the totals of likes or views, although the list of users who have liked each post will be accessible to everyone.
