Having problems with the Wi-Fi network is common. There are several causes that can cause your connection to not work, your device does not connect to it or, simply, its performance is not adequate. Throughout this article, we talk about some of the most common connection failures and we show you the possible solutions. We have tried to sort them to help you discover the source of the problem.
Check that your phone has Wi-Fi enabled
Although it may seem obvious, in many cases the problem occurs because the device does not have the network adapter activated. Android has a shortcut in the notification curtain that will allow you to activate Wi-Fi.
Verify that Wi-Fi is active
You can also access the settings and, in the networks section, manually activate the Wi-Fi.
Verify that Wi-Fi is active in settings
Wait a few seconds and your terminal will reconnect automatically.
Fix connection problems by deleting the network
If you have already verified that your device has Wi-Fi enabled, but cannot connect, there are some actions you can take to fix it. First, delete saved network. Thus, you can enter the password again and restart the connection. To do this, make a long press on the network. In context menu, tap on Forget network.
Forget a network
Now, click on the network again and enter the password.
Enter the password again
By doing this, you will ensure that you have entered the password correctly and that you renew the granting of the IP address by the router. But what if the network is active and still does not appear in the list? You can add it manually by tapping on Add network.
Add a new network manually
Enter the network name and password and tap Save.
Enter name and password of the network
Again, wait a few seconds for your device to connect.
Why is my wifi not working? Find out easily
By taking the previous two steps, you will most likely solve most connection problems. But, if the fault still persists, we help you to know its origin with some questions.
- Does the connection fail on only one device on the network? The fact that the rest of the devices connected to your network are working correctly reveals that the problem is with your mobile device. Try connecting it to another Wi-Fi network to see if it works, and in the event that it fails, we recommend that you restore it. If that doesn’t fix things, contact technical support.
- Does the connection to a specific application fail? Check that the connection is failing with all the apps. If connection problems only occur with a specific application, it is likely that the application’s servers are down and the problem is not yours.
- Are there faults in the rest of the devices? If none of your devices connect to the network, make sure your router is working properly. It may have been shut down or may need to be restarted. If your router issues are not resolved, you may need to contact your service provider.
Network speed problems: my wifi is slow
It is likely that you will be able to connect to your network regularly, but that the connection speed is not very low. But don’t worry, there are a few things you can do to fix it.
- Are you too far from your router? Poor coverage and being too far from the signal is the main reason why a connection becomes slow. If, for some reason, it is not possible for you to approach the router, consider installing Wifi repeaters.
- Are there many devices connected to the network? A very large volume of devices connected to the router greatly affects performance. Today, we connect smart bulbs, refrigerators, televisions, vacuum cleaners, virtual assistants … If the capacity of your router is at the limit, the speed of the Wi-Fi will become very slow.
- Is there interference? If you live in a block of flats or in a very crowded area, the connection may slow down due to interference. At this point, you have two options. First, change the network broadcast channel. You must do it in the administration panel of your router which, generally, is accessible from the IP 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Second, it uses the 5 GHz connection, which is generally broadcast in parallel with the 2.4 GHz connection. The 5 GHz connection is only available on newer models.
Wi-Fi turns on and off by itself: watch out for software and hardware errors
Finally, you may be experiencing connection problems stemming from failures in your phone’s operating system or hardware. It may be that, in your case, the Wi-Fi turns off and on intermittently. In that case, make sure the rest of the connected devices are working properly. If so, everything points to your phone and therefore, it’s time to restore it. Do it by entering settings and accessing the section System.
System options on Android
Tap on Reset options.
Restoration options
Choose Erase all data (factory reset).
Restore device
Remember to have a backup of your data, as all your information will be deleted. If the problem persists after restoring the device, you will most likely need to contact the Official technical service so that they give you a solution. Apparently you are facing a hardware failure.
