5 tricks to manage notifications in Samsung’s One UI

One UI is the customization layer present in Samsung phones, which is currently launching version 2.5 of it on many phones in Spain, waiting for the launch of the new version based on Android 11. This interface is known because it gives us a large number of functions, with which to make a good use of the phone.

Notification management is something of importance on Android, for which there are various tricks. Although in One UI we have some additional functions available, which allow us a much more personalized management of notifications. Thanks to them it is possible to take advantage of your Samsung mobile.

Notifications window or popup view

If you use a lot of messaging apps on your phone, a good system to manage notifications it becomes necessary. One UI has a function called Smart Popup View, which allows us to choose some applications that will then issue a notification and an icon of the app will be displayed on the screen. By clicking on this icon, a small pop-up window opens, where you can read the message that they have sent us. So you can respond from that pop-up window directly or simply read the content. This function is activated like this:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Enter Advanced Features.
  3. Tap Smart Popup View.
  4. Select which applications can have this type of notification.

Alerts for pending notifications

To know if we have pending notifications, the system gives us more options, apart from the phone’s notification bar. One of them is the alert function of pending notifications. This function will show a small orange circle with the number of pending notifications at the top of the app icon. Thus, when we move on the phone, we can see this symbol and thus see that we have pending notifications in a specific app. In One UI it can be activated by following these steps:

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Enter the Notifications section.
  3. Activate the App Icon Alerts option.

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Enter Home Screen.
  3. Look for the Swipe down option for notifications.
  4. Activate this option.

Customize the status bar

If you receive many notifications at the same time, or if you have some pending to read and new ones arrive, the status bar in One UI can get crowded too. Samsung allows you to configure how many notifications and the form of them, will be displayed in this status bar. So you can see more information about the notification or bet on a design where the app and the number of notifications are shown. It can be configured like this:

  1. Open the phone settings.
  2. Enter Notifications.
  3. Tap on status bar.
  4. Select the desired option / type of notifications.

What this function is responsible for doing is that some of the pixels on the OLED screen are used to notify us of a new notification in it, such as when we receive a WhatsApp message. The steps to activate this function are:

  2. Enter the Screen section.
  3. Go to the Edge screen option.
  4. We click on Edge Lighting.
